D. Debieuvre et al., A CASE OF DISSEMINATED INFECTION DUE TO A N UNUSUAL STRAIN OF NOCARDIA-FARCINICA, Revue des maladies respiratoires, 10(4), 1993, pp. 356-358
Nocardia farcinica, isolated by Nocard in 1888, has recently been rede
fined as a separate species to asteroides and has been recognised as h
uman pathogen since 1975. Following airbone contamination, lung infect
ion is most usual with frequent dissemination especially to central ne
rvous system. Usually drug resistance makes treatment difficult. The a
uthors describe the first case of Nocardia farcinica disseminated infe
ction in France with lung primarily affection, empyema and encephaliti
s.
