Gm. Beer et P. Kompatscher, THE FATE OF A FREE BURIED DERMIS GRAFT REINFORCING THE ANTERIOR ABDOMINAL-WALL, European journal of plastic surgery, 16(4-5), 1993, pp. 234-237
In 1937, Peer and Paddock [3] stated that the dermis graft ''has gaine
d little popularity because of the theoretical possibility of cyst for
mation from sweat glands, hair follicles and sebaceous glands remainin
g in the dermis. '' The formation of cysts, albeit of microscopic prop
ortions, is a common finding after the second week of insertion. The n
atural history of these cysts seems to be a spontaneous dissolution in
the overwhelming majority of cases, as happened in the two cases pres
ented by McGregor in 1991 [2]. In the rare case presented here, there
was no such spontaneous dissolution.
