A variety of techniques to dissect the submuscular pocket in preparati
on for the insertion of a breast prosthesis have been advocated, many
involving the use of a blunt metal instrument. One such which appears
to be popular is the largest Clutton urethral sound with a well curved
tip (Fig. 1). Although I have never cared for it and have eschewed it
s use, two experienced colleagues with whom I worked employed it regul
arly for subpectoral dissection.
