The veterinary practitioner often must identity and explain equine beh
avior problems and offer solutions to horse owners. Behaviors develope
d by the horse to cope with abnormal aspects of its environment can of
ten be alleviated by putting the horse in a more natural situation. Le
arned behavior problems often can be solved by identifying the reward
perpetuating the behavior and withholding that reward. The importance
of identifying and eliminating the cause(s) of the behavior problem is
addressed.
