By using the results of previous investigations on the solid-state rea
ction in mechanically deformed Ni/Ti multilayered composites and combi
ning a diffusion-controlled layer growth mechanism with a transient-nu
cleation model, we calculate, for the first time, the temperature at w
hich the formation of competing intermetallic compounds replaces that
of the initial amorphous phase in Ni/Ti multilayered composites anneal
ed at a constant heating rate.
