Calculations are carried out to determine the angular distribution of
gamma rays resulting from positron annihilation when low-energy positr
ons are scattered by the hydrogen molecular ion. Angular distributions
calculated using wavefunctions from a variational Kohn calculation ar
e compared with those obtained using the Coulomb-Born approximation. T
he angular distribution function calculated with the most accurate wav
efunction gives a half width half maximum value of 3.42 mrad for incid
ent positrons with momentum 0.8 a(0)(-1).
