Rheological and mechanical properties of the blends of polyamide the 6
6 and LC copolymer of hydroxybenzoic acid and PET were investigated. V
ariation of the properties that results from high-temperature annealin
g of the blends was studied by viscometry of dilute polymer solutions,
DSC, and IR spectroscopy, The addition of even small amounts of the c
opolymer was shown to give rise to a considerable decrease, by a facto
r of 10-12, in viscosity of the blends and to a certain enhancement of
the strength, by 20%, as compared to the corresponding characteristic
s of the polyamide. Variation of the properties during long-term annea
ling of the blends evidences that transesterification and transamidina
tion take place at the interface between the polyamide and the copolym
er.
