Abstract
The cis-trans isomerization and oxidation processes in polyacetylene f ilms irradiated with an electron beam were studied by IR spectroscopy. It was found that the radiation treatment of the films stabilizes the initial cis conformation and hinders the oxidative destruction of pol ymer chains, The effect of conformational stabilization is most clearl y manifested upon a prolonged storage of irradiated films in an inert atmosphere at low temperatures, and is much less pronounced at elevate d temperatures.
