R. Logendran et P. Ramakrishna, EFFECT OF MACHINING TIME IN THE DUPLICATION PROCESS OF MACHINE CELLS FORMATION, Computers & industrial engineering, 25(1-4), 1993, pp. 29-32
After the assignment of parts and machines to manufacturing cells are
made, it would be advantages to consider duplicating bottleneck machin
es, as in the long run significant savings in material handling costs
can be realized. In this paper, we consider the effect of machining ti
me saved over and above the savings in material handling costs in the
development of the model. Comparative results obtained from solving an
example problem demonstrate that this effect could indeed be signific
ant under certain levels of budgetary restrictions.
