Horticultural oil, insecticidal soap, and film-forming products were t
ested for their efficacy in reducing transmission of the tomato spotte
d wilt virus (lettuce serotype) and feeding and reproduction of the we
stern flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis). Wilt-Pruf, oil, and
Dow Corning 36 products reduced virus transmission by 73, 57, and 46%;
and feeding activity by 40, 4, and 41%, respectively. Only Dow Cornin
g 36 significantly reduced (66%) reproduction.
