M. Defrutos et al., NEW PARAMETERS FOR THE CHARACTERIZATION OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHIC RETENTION AND TEMPERATURE, Analytical chemistry, 65(19), 1993, pp. 2643-2649
Estimation of the gas chromatographic retention at different temperatu
res can be carried out by calculation of the parameters relating capac
ity ratio (k) and temperature; these parameters can also be used in th
e optimization of separations. However, their use in the characterizat
ion of gas chromatographic retention requires precise measures, since
they are very sensitive to experimental errors. We propose in this stu
dy the use of the parameters T(ik) (defined as the isothermal column t
emperature at which a compound i has a capacity ratio k) and of other
parameters derived from them by principal component analysis, in order
to characterize, in several approximation levels, the relationship be
tween k and T for any compound/column pair, and as a starting point fo
r the calculation of gas chromatographic retention and the optimizatio
n of separations.
