Pa. Bespalov et Ss. Davydenko, THE STABILITY OF PLASMA DISKS IN MAGNETOS PHERES OF HOT DEGENERATE STARS AND ROTATING PLANETS, ASTRONOM ZH, 70(4), 1993, pp. 792-803
The magnetohydrodynamic stability of dense plasma disks in the magneto
spheres of hot white dwarfs and rotating planets was investigated. The
equilibrium radial distribution of plasma concentration was found for
plasma disks at the threshold of the instability with respect to smal
l-scale MHD-perturbations. The effects of finite ion Larmor radius and
inhomogeneity of the perturbations along the magnetic field on the ra
dial concentration profile were taken into account. The influence of f
inite thickness of the plasma disk on the plasma distribution over the
magnetic shells was studied. The results obtained were compared with
the experimental data for the Jovian plasma sheet.
