Z. Njah et al., STUDY OF 3-D MIXING OF A COLD JET WITH A TRANSVERSE-PLASMA STREAM, International journal of heat and mass transfer, 36(16), 1993, pp. 3897-3907
The present study involves both experimental and mathematical modellin
g of the 3-D mixing of a single jet with a transverse main stream. In
the first part of this study, the interaction between a laminar nitrog
en jet and a cross-flowing argon stream is studied under isothermal fl
ow conditions. Results show that the numerical predictions of the nitr
ogen concentration fields, downstream of the injection point, are in g
ood agreement with the experimental measurements. In the second part o
f this study, calculations of the mixing pattern between a single cold
jet and a transverse plasma stream are presented. Results reveal a mu
ch slower gas mixing process under plasma conditions due to the increa
sing viscosity of the main stream. It is also shown that the mixing ch
aracteristics depend strongly on the ratio of jet to main stream mass
fluxes (R(m) = rho(i)v(i)/rho0w0).
