The traditional approaches to the study of memory were focused to find
the general principles on how memory operates. In recent years has be
en increasing interest in the research of memory in its natural contex
ts the ecological memory. A statement of the ecological directions for
memory research is presented here, emphasizing the orientations histo
rical and collective (Halbwachs, Blondel, Bartlett). Two dimensions ar
e direction of ecological orientation. One dimension is that the actor
of remembering (individual vs. collective) and other that the ecologi
cal (natural context vs artificial context).
