Hc. Steinhausen et R. Seidel, SHORT-TERM AND INTERMEDIATE-TERM OUTCOME IN ADOLESCENT EATING DISORDERS, Acta psychiatrica Scandinavica, 88(3), 1993, pp. 169-173
Within a prospective longitudinal outcome study of the eating disorder
s with onset during adolescence, 26 former patients were reassessed at
short-term (19-38 months) and intermediate-term (48-72 months) follow
-up periods. It was shown that the outcome was worse at short-term fol
low-up. In addition, the changes of diagnostic categories within the s
pectrum of the eating disorders were studied. It is concluded that out
come studies require repeated assessments to study the various pattern
s of course of the eating disorders.
