Extensive use of dyes in various fields has led to water pollution pro
blem when these are discharged into waste waters. The physico-chemical
and biological methods alone cannot remove dyes in a satisfactory man
ner and in certain cases the combination of the approaches also is not
feasible. It is, however, possible to reduce the dye content of the w
ater by electrolytic decomposition. Accordingly an electrolytic cell w
as designed and used for the treatment of the waste water containing d
yes. The dye content of the waste water was reduced appreciably.
