The exopolysaccharide compositions of three polyprothecoid bacteria we
re determined, i.e, Ancalomicrobium adetum (strain A.8) and two uniden
tified strains, 4.22 and 2.29, which have been provisionally assigned
to the genus Ancalomicrobium. The exopolysaccharide of A. adetum A.8 c
ontained arabinose, xylose, glucose, and galactose in a ratio close to
2:1:3:0.5. The exopolysaccharide of strain 4.22 contained rhamnose, g
lucose, and galactose in a ratio of 1:3:1.5, and the exopolysaccharide
of strain 2.29 contained rhamnose, xylose, mannose, glucose, and gala
ctose in the ratio 1:1:1.5:2.5:2.5.
