We studied the production of pectate lyase isoenzymes by the phytopath
ogenic bacterium E. carotovora var. atroseptica 36A, grown in batch cu
ltures on a synthetic medium containing different effectors of pectina
se synthesis, as well as on media supplemented with plant components.
Certain principles concerning the regulation of the synthesis of indiv
idual pectate lyase isoenzymes have been established. We showed that t
he presence of certain spectra of pectate lyase isoenzymes in the infe
cted plant tissues were a function of the plants' chemical composition
