STEPS TOWARD GLOBAL AIR DEFENSES

Defenses against aircraft and cruise missiles are a logical adjunct to defenses against ballistic missiles. Developed technologies could sup port air defenses complementary to limited missile defenses that would be effective against reduced threats. While effective missile defense s should shift emphasis back to aircraft and cruise missiles, technolo gies in development should be appropriate for projected threats. Inter national development could improve the performance of defenses and les sen the risks and consequences of errors.
