Abstract
A synthetic routs has been developed for the preparation of, inter ali a, a benzo[2,3-c]pyranquinone with a view to making the route more gen erally applicable to the synthesis of naturally occurring naphtho[2,3- c]pyranquinones and other quinones of potential importance as bioreduc tive alkylating agents. The synthetic quinones and their precursors we re tested in vitro for antimicrobial activity.
