Abstract
A dynamic model of a countercurrent brownstock washing system was buil t in order to develop and evaluate process control strategies. For a s ingle industrial stage, approximately 90 minutes were required to achi eve 95% of a new steady state following a step-change in the dissolved solids concentration in the feed stream. Response times became very l arge for several washers in series. When the dilution factor was manip ulated, about 75% of the change in the dissolved solids concentration in a washed pulp stream occurred instantaneously.
