Ar. Datta et Mh. Kothary, EFFECTS OF GLUCOSE, GROWTH TEMPERATURE, AND PH ON LISTERIOLYSIN-O PRODUCTION IN LISTERIA-MONOCYTOGENES, Applied and environmental microbiology, 59(10), 1993, pp. 3495-3497
Expression of listeriolysin O of Listeria monocytogenes as a function
of different growth conditions was studied by performing a direct hemo
lysin assay, immunoblotting experiments, and an enzyme-linked immunoso
rbent assay. Expression of listeriolysin O was reduced at a lower grow
th temperatures (26-degrees-C) and at higher glucose concentrations (g
reater-than-or-equal-to 0.3%) in the growth media. The effect of gluco
se appeared to be due to a change in the pH of the growth media.
