Dtl. Shek et al., PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF THE CHINESE VERSION OF THE KANSAS MARITAL SATISFACTION SCALE, Social behavior and personality, 21(3), 1993, pp. 241-249
The Chinese version of the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale (C-KMS) w
as administered to 91 maritally ''adjusted'' and 81 maritally ''maladj
usted'' adults. along with other instruments assessing marital adjustm
ent (the Chinese Dyadic Adjustment Scale) and marital expectations (th
e Chinese Marital Comparison Level Index). The C-KMS was found to have
high internal consistency as a scale and the C-KMS scores were observ
ed to correlate substantially with measures of marital adjustment and
marital expectation but not significantly with measures not expected t
o be related to marriage. The results also showed that there were sign
ificant differences between the maritally ''adjusted'' and the ''malad
justed'' groups of subjects in terms of C-KMS scores. The present data
show that the C-KMS has acceptable reliability and validity status an
d that it can be used as an objective tool in assessing marital satisf
action in the Chinese context.
