The activity of skeletal cobalt catalysts for the synthesis of hydroca
rbons from CO and H-2, as well as the influence of added nickel and ir
on on their properties were investigated. The composition and structur
e of these catalysts were studied. A catalyst of the composition 40% C
o-60% Al was found to be the most active (hydrocarbon output 191 g/m3)
. The addition of nickel and iron leads to a considerably reduced hydr
ocarbon output (81-45 g/m3), and also to a change of the composition o
f the liquid products. The catalyst samples were investigated by X-ray
phase analysis (XPA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
