The Li-6 cross polarization magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) spectra of s
everal commercially available lithium-containing solids were obtained.
Lithium acetate hydrate is evidently the sample of choice for setting
up the Li-6{H-1} CP/MAS experiment. A Li-6 spectrum of the sample wit
hout spinning yields a Fake doublet that can be best simulated with a
Li-6 quadrupolar coupling constant, chi(Li-6), of 2.5 +/- 0.2 kHz and
an asymmetry parameter, eta, of less than 0.2. A noticeable asymmetry
in the intensities of the two halves of the powder line shape, enhance
d by increasing the static magnetic held by a factor of 2.5, is probab
ly due to the effects of chemical shift anisotropy. (C) 1997 by John W
