The abrasive wear of zinc under the action of NaCl solutions of differ
ent pH values and deionized H2O was studied. Results obtained carrying
out abrasive wear tests of zinc for the same load under dry condition
s, were used as a reference. It was found that the corrosive action of
the solutions led to a decrease in the wear rate, with respect to the
wear rate for the dry conditions. NaCl solutions, which were more agg
ressive to zinc than deionized H2O, were found to be more effective th
an H2O in decreasing the wear rate. The wear rate was also found to de
pend upon the pH value of each NaCl solution, taking lower values whil
e pH was moving to alkaline values.
