M. Moniruzzaman et Lo. Ingram, Ethanol production from dilute acid hydrolysate of rice hulls using genetically engineered Escherichia coli, BIOTECH LET, 20(10), 1998, pp. 943-947
Approximately 30% of rice hulls, which represent an abundant residue with l
ittle commercial value, was solubilized with 0.4 M H2SO4 acid to produce a
syrup containing over 100 g monomer sugar/l. Toxins generated during hydrol
ysis were mitigated with Ca(OH)(2). Treated hydrolysate plus additional nut
rients was fermented with Escherichia coli KO11 to produce over 46 g ethano
l/L in 72 h (92% of theoretical yield).
