Abstract
A spectrophotometric reaction rate method for the determination of molybden um is described, based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of nile blu e by hydrogen peroxide. The decrease in absorbance of nile blue with time f rom 0.5 to 4 min at 590 nm is proportional to the concentration of Mo(VI) o ver the range 0.022-1000 mu g/mL. The limit of detection of molybdenum(VI) is 0.008 mu g/mL. The precision and the effect of more than forty ions are reported. The procedure has been successfully applied for the determination of molybdenum(VI) in plant materials and steel samples.
