A novel type of oxovanadium (V) complex in an unfavourable carboxylate rich
O, N environment containing pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate and quinolin-8-olat
e has been synthesized and characterized on the basis of IR, UV/ VIS and re
dox behaviour. The coordination sphere of the complex is of the type VO(ONO
)(ON), where O atoms are of ore, carboxylic and phenolic type and N atoms a
re of pyridine type. The complex is diamagnetic and displays only one inten
se band in the visible region (at 560 nm) due to ligand to metal charge tra
nsfer (LMCT) transition-It exhibits a quasi-reversible one-electron cyclic
voltammetric response near 0.16 V vs SCE.
