K X-my satellite spectra of Mg and MgO have been studied by photon excitati
on using a plane crystal spectrometer. An indication of a slight shift in t
he energy of the K-alpha 3', K-alpha 4', K-alpha 5 lines and a negative shi
ft (5 eV) in the energy of tbe K beta line is noticed as we go from Mg to M
gO. The K X-ray relative intensities are consistently higher in MgO than in
Mg. Dependence of intensity on incident photon energy has been observed.
