Danisco Sugar Development Center

Danisco Sugar Development Centre is the technical development and support c entre for the Sugar Sector within Danisco, and has offices in Denmark and S weden. The primary areas of interest are: Process Development, Process Auto mation and Technical Support for the sugar factories. The Development Centr e has a total of approximately 120 employees. Examples of the Centre's activities include development of new separation m ethods and on-line measurement technologies, elimination of process additiv es, and energy optimization. This article includes an overview of two of the Centre's larger research pr ojects. The first involves the development of a new concept for measuring d irt tare, beet crown and sugar content in beet loads. The second is develop ment of methods for cleaning beets in the field to minimise dirt delivery t o the factories. The Centre's efforts geared towards factory automation are also briefly described.
