M. Neviere et E. Popov, New theoretical method for electromagnetic wave diffraction by a metallic or dielectric cylinder, bare or coated with a thin dielectric layer, J ELECTROM, 12(10), 1998, pp. 1265-1296
A new hybrid theoretical method for modelling light diffraction by a cylind
er is proposed, based on a curvilinear non-orthogonal transformation of the
coordinate system, which transforms the cylinder surface into a circular c
ylinder. When this method is applied to diffraction gratings, Maxwell equat
ions are integrated using eigenvalue technique. In Contrast to this case, t
he cylindrical geometry requires numerical integration, thus the hybrid nat
ure of the method. Dielectric and metallic cylinders, bare or overcoated by
dielectric and metallic layers can be studied. Due to the hybrid nature of
the method, particular cases can be studied, when only a part of the cylin
der is covered by a layer. Several numerical examples are presented to illu
strate the range of validity of the method.
