The fine and hyperfine structure of the (0, 0) band of the B(2)Sigma(u)(+)-
X(2)Sigma(g)(+) system of N-14(2)+ has been measured using fast-ion-beam la
ser spectroscopy. Rotational transitions with 0 less than or equal to N " l
ess than or equal to 35 were recorded with a linewidth of similar to 0.0064
cm(-1) full-width-half-maximum, allowing complete resolution of all strong
hyperfine components. The frequencies of the Line centers for N " greater
than or equal to 3, together with the complete rotational Line profiles for
N " < 5, were used to determine the spin-rotation constants and the Fermi
and dipolar hyperfine constants for the B and X states. This is the first t
ime the hyperfine constants for upsilon " = 0 have been measured for gas-ph
ase N-2(+). (C) 1998 Academic Press.
