T. Nakamura et al., Distribution of spin polarization in ferrimagnetic DyFe2 by a novel analysis of magnetic EXAFS, J PHYS JPN, 67(11), 1998, pp. 3964-3968
Magnetic EXAFS (MEXAFS) at the Fe K-edge in DyFe2 powder and an Fe thin him
were measured. In order to derive a ferrimagnetic coupling of spin moments
between Dy and Fe from MEXAFS spectra, novel analysis for MEXAFS has been
tried. The sigma(r) profiles, which are defined as the difference between t
he absolute values of Fourier transformed k(3)chi(+)(k) and k(3)chi(-) (k),
were calculated for the measured spectra. chi(+)(k) and chi(-)(k) are EXAF
S functions when the correlation between a X-ray beam and a magnetic field
applied to a sample is parallel and anti-parallel, respectively. The sigma(
r) has well described the distribution of spin polarization with its sign f
or ferrimagnetic DyFe2. A simulated distribution profile, in which only spi
n moments were considered, has been compared with the a(r) in DyFe2 and a g
ood coincidence between them has been obtained. The sigma(r) profile for an
Fe thin film completely reflects the ferromagnetic character and this resu
lt supports the validity of the present analysis.
