Ha. Davies et Jkh. Wales, THE EFFECTS OF CHEMOTHERAPY ON THE LONG-TERM SURVIVORS OF MALIGNANCY, British Journal of Hospital Medicine, 57(5), 1997, pp. 215-218
It is estimated that by the year 2000 one in a thousand 20-year-olds w
ill be a survivor of childhood cancer. Increasingly, chemotherapy alon
e is being used because of concerns about the long-term effects of rad
iotherapy. However, chemotherapy may also have long-term effects parti
cularly on growth and body composition, cardiac function and fertility
. Other important late effects include renal and lung toxicity, hearin
g impairment, neuropsychological sequalae and secondary leukaemias.
