M. Roussel-delvallez et al., Comparative activity of cefotaxime and ceftriaxone on 203 strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, MED MAL INF, 28(10), 1998, pp. 675-677
The evolution of antimicrobial resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae requi
res the determination of the MICs to antibiotics, particularly beta-lactams
. The third-generation cephalosporins are the empirical drugs of choice for
pneumococcal infections, essentially meningitis, in areas of the world whe
re penicillin-resistant pneumococci are prevalent. The aim of this study wa
s to compare the MIC of cefotaxime and ceftriaxone obtained by the referenc
e agar dilution method. The results showed a complete equivalence of the tw
o molecules against S. pneumoniae.
