Abstract
Sheet breaks are of major concern because they diminish the reliability and efficiency of a pulp production process, incur substantial cost, and pose a significant safety risk to mill operators. An expert system has been deve loped to monitor major process variables, troubleshoot operation-problems, and recommend remedial actions to prevent the occurrence of sheet breaks. T ts knowledge base was based on experience and standard practices of mill pe rsonnel. The system was tested with industrial data containing sheet-break records.
