Abstract
Recently coatings on amorphous iron and amorphous iron oxide nanoparticles were successfully formed, using the self-assembled technique. The results o f the Mossbauer spectroscopy and XANES studies of thiol-coated nanophased a morphous iron are reported in this work. They provide more support in demon strating the formation of chemical bonds between the amorphous iron and the various surfactants. A trivalent iron atom is detected as bound to the SDS surfactant by both: XANES and Mossbauer spectroscopies. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
