The molecular structure of the title complex, [HfCl(mu- Cl)(CH3)(eta(5)-C9H
7)](2), which is a rare example of an indenylhafnium alkyl complex, is desc
ribed. In this centrosymmetric structure, the geometry around each Hf atom
is best described as a pseudo-square pyramid. There is a small amount of di
sorder between the methyl groups and the terminal chloride ligands.
