Alterations of the p53 tumor suppressor gene in 21 cases with acoustic neur
oma were investigated by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment pol
ymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP)
. Neither mutation nor deletion was found. In 13 informative cases, no loss
of heterozygosity (LOH) was confirmed. Thus our results further substantia
te the scant contribution of p53 gene tumorigenesis and cell proliferation
to acoustic neuromas.
