C. Guzman et al., Intraduodenal hematoma complicating intestinal biopsy - Case reports and review of the literature, AM J GASTRO, 93(12), 1998, pp. 2547-2550
We report two cases of postbiopsy duodenal hematoma and review 14 additiona
l cases. Duodenal hematoma predominantly occurs in children and presents wi
th abdominal pain, vomiting, and pancreatitis, Upper gastrointestinal serie
s, abdominal ultrasound, and CT scan are useful in visualizing the hematoma
. No comparative studies of the usefulness of these techniques are availabl
e, but a CT is indicated if perforation is suspected. The treatment is cons
ervative if no perforation is detected, and resolution of symptoms generall
y occurs within 2 wk, (C) 1998 by Am. Coll. of Gastroenterology.
