A sulfated O-specific polysaccharide containing D-mannose, L-rhamnose, and
the sulfate group was obtained by mild acid hydrolysis of lipoyolysaccharid
e (S-form) of the marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas marinoglutinosa KMM 23
2. Based oil analysis of methylation and C-13-NMR spectroscopy of native an
d desulfated polysaccharides, the following structure of disaccharide repea
t unit in the O-specific polysaccharide has been established:

This is the first report of a sulfated O-specific polysaccharide isolated f
rom gram-negative bacteria.
