Abstract
A taxonomic account of the genus Lachenalia Jacq.f. ex Murray in the Easter n Cape, South Africa, is given. Eight species are recognised, and descripti ons of these are amended and elaborated as necessary, three taxa have been reduced to synonymy and five species erroneously recorded within the provin ce are excluded. Three of the species are endemic to the province. An ident ification key is provided.
