Ag. Anshits et al., The influence of O-2 on oxidative coupling of methane over oxide catalystsusing N2O as oxidant, CATAL TODAY, 46(2-3), 1998, pp. 211-216
The study of the influence of molecular oxygen on N2O decomposition under c
onditions of oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) and on the simple reaction
of N2O decomposition (without methane) was carried out over SrO and Li/Bi2
O3. It was found that molecular oxygen caused the decrease in the rate of N
2O decomposition over all the catalysts studied under conditions of OCM. Ho
wever, the overall catalytic activity over Bi-containing catalysts are sign
ificantly lower than that for SrO. Poisoning by molecular oxygen was establ
ished over Li/Bi2O3 for N2O decomposition without methane. Over SrO molecul
ar oxygen was not shown to inhibit the decomposition of nitrous oxide in th
e absence of methane. It was established that the defect structure of SrO w
as changed under catalytic conditions. The participation of structural defe
cts for N2O decomposition and CO2 formation was proposed. (C) 1998 Elsevier
