Abstract
Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) are cost-effective strategies for emplo yers to contain the substantial direct and indirect costs of substance abus e in the workplace. EAPs offer prevention, early detection, assessment of r eferral, and after-care programs to help stem the enormous costs of substan ce abuse in the workplace. Most effective employer substance abuse programs integrate drug-testing and EAP services to ensure a well coordinated, cost -effective program.
