Speech compaction using temporal decomposition

A new method for compacting speech in the time domain is proposed. Unlike c onventional time scale modification techniques, the method emphasises event locations, obtained from spectral analysis and hierarchical temporal decom position, and removes the remaining parts of the signal adaptively. Subject ive evaluation tests show that the new method outperforms conventional comp action methods from the viewpoints of quality and comprehensibility of the compacted signal.
