Finite-time thermodynamic performance of isentropic closed regenerated Bray
ton heat pump cycles coupled to constant-and variable-temperature heat rese
rvoirs has been analyzed in this paper. The relations between heating load
and pressure ratio and between COP (coefficient of performance) and pressur
e ratio are derived for the two cases of heat reservoirs. In the analysis,
the sole irreversibility is the heat resistance losses in the heat exchange
rs between the working fluid and the high, and low, temperature heat reserv
oirs and the regenerator. A numerical example is also given. (C) 1998 Elsev
