Abstract
The National Ignition Facility (NIF) is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) l aser fusion experimental facility currently under construction at the Lawre nce Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). This paper describes the safety a nd environmental processes followed to NIF during the design and constructi on activities.
