Abstract
Osteomyelitis is an excellent example of an infection that can benefit from outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy. Most cases require a prolonge d course of intravenous antimicrobial therapy although the patient may be w ell otherwise. Although the spectrum of organisms and related diseases is g reat, antimicrobial can be selected and used to meet the needs of almost an y situation. For osteomyelitis, there must often be special considerations in regard to patient selection, delivery model, vascular access, infusion d evice, surgery, and other diseases that may play an important role.
