Abstract
The electronic spectrum of [Rr(CO)(4)(oxinate)] (oxinate = 8-quinolinato) i n CH3CN shows a longest-wavelength absorption at lambda(max) =422 nm which is assigned to an intraligand (IL) transition of the coordinated oxinate. T he complex displays a weak green fluorescence and a strong red phosphoresce nce which originates from the (IL)-I-1 and (IL)-I-3 states, respectively. T hese emissions appear at r.t. in solution as well as in the solid state. Wh ile the fluorescence is not affected by oxygen the phosphorescence is compl etely quenched in the presence of air.
